It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

That's what happens when you're dedicated Female Body Investigator who cares for his damnable job more than his own wife. She was cut and butchered by crazy serial killer. This movie (2002) had very strong point and something what someones should beware if they wanted to keep their family whole.

The opening credits provided a glimmer of hope for this film in the form of co-stars Kris Kristofferson, Tom Berenger and Dina Meyer, however Ms. Meyer gets offed early on after an opening scene in which she smooches Stallone (Jake Malloy) during an ostensibly romantic, yet actually insipidly mumbled conversation while he holds a toy mechanical clapping monkey which apparently has no significance whatsoever resulting in its being unceremoniously hurled behind the sofa. This cursory intro to Mary Malloy will constitute her entire character development, thus her abruptly brutal departure creates no sense of loss other than the obvious absence of beauty for the rest of the movie. The episodic feature spends too long lingering over each scene which consists of Sly mugging and grimacing over his loss. Kristofferson is largely misused as the proprietor of a rehab facility that looks more like a set left over from a dystopian sci-if feature. Meanwhile, Berenger is completely wasted in what appears to be a half-baked role of an electrician or plumber from Minnesota or maybe Canada, I'm unclear on why this part even existed. Any way, there's a cop killing psycho on the loose who surprisingly winds up in the same detox unit in a seeming paean to cliché-ridden cop TV shows, but at least they're over in an hour or less. The actors give it their best shot but the only applause you'll hear at the end of this feature is originating from the tin monkey still trapped behind the living room couch.

The first half an hour of this movie is actually really good and then it just turns into... well, something else. As soon as Stallone's character enters the "d-tox" facility this goes from being a cop movie to a slasher-thriller. We get clichéd characters, bad dialogue, cornball who-done-it with a little 'Shining' thrown in. Too bad. Stallone gives a great performance though, particularly in those opening scenes. I often forget that he can really act when he wants to. His character here reminded me of the one he portrayed in 'Copland'.Stallone is Jake Malloy, a cop who goes off the deep end after being toyed with by a serial killer (that kills cops) and witnessing some bad, bad sh*t. Jake can't pull it together, becomes an alcoholic and eventually gets sent to a secluded detox clinic in snowy Wyoming (Whistler B.C) that specializes in treating law enforcement officials. Seems the killer has also made his way to detox though and pretty soon patients start dropping dead.Lots of familiar faces in the supporting cast here, Charles S. Dutton, Kris Kristofferson, Sean Patrick Flanery, Stephen Lang and Tom Berenger. 03.13

I caught this film late last night on Encore cable channel. The title escaped me, but it sounded like an interesting premise. Well not only was I surprised how entertaining this movie was, but I was even more surprised how impressive Stallone's performance was, considering most of his roles for the last decade or so were the usual dumb action hero types whose conversational skills consisted of grunts and groans mostly. In the film "Eye See You " (2002) STALLONE GIVES HIS ALL ! AN unusually vulnerable as well as poignant portrayal of a grieving FBI agent who turns to the bottle. I won't give the storyline away, but it also has outstanding performances by Robert Patrick, Sean Patrick Flannery and Charles S. Dutton. Most of the film takes place in a snowbound Detox center in Wyoming run by ex cop Kris Kristopherson. More of a murder mystery than action flick which is refreshing for a Stallone movie, and a fair amount of gruesome murders to boot! I recommend it, not only for Sly fans, but for horror fans as well.
