It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

This is another horror movie that should never have been shot because it's really bad. Whole story is based on the most perennial urban myth: an e-mail chain that kills when it's not forwarded by the recipient. If the idea is absurd and unbelievable for a normal person, make this real in a movie, even if it's just a horror motto, is surreal. Didn't they have a better idea or excuse to make a movie with teenagers being shredded? The film is full of gore and macabre murders, but this is not enough to make a good movie because there is no real plot behind, giving coherence to all work. What saves the film from being total crap is the cast's almost decent performance. The actors strive to do a good job, but it's almost impossible, given the bad stuff they have to work with. I respect that effort, but it's simply not enough to make the movie worth-watching.

Flashback to an 80's teen-slasher movie.Oops, and I've deleted so many chain letters. If they kept the atmosphere like in the opening scene throughout the movie, it would have been quite a great movie in its genre. The moment with all those chains reminded me of "Hellraiser" and gave me the hope for an entertaining horror. Vain hope eventually because after the beginning the movie collapsed like a poorly raised plum pudding.Off course all known clichés are used in it : the ubiquitous fog, a bath scene with a nice college girl who,as the tradition dictates, won't survive, a gym, stupid detectives and dumb scared teens. It's something like "Final Destiny" but with a lame story, a totally disappointing ending (that's because the beginning was too strong) and a totally incomprehensible storyline. Afterwards you can only guess why it happened and what the actual reason was. Add to this a terribly bad amateurish group of actors and that damned drizzling rain throughout the complete movie. You surely would get depressed because of that !A total stinker and unworthy for the slasher genre. It's kind of weird because in the cast there are a few who had to know better, according to IMDb. The next persons were present in this flick : Betsy Russell: Saw Michael J. Pagan: See no Evil Charles Fleischer: A Nightmare on Elm Street Keith David: The Thing Matt Cohen: Boogeyman 2 Michael Bailey Smith: A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child, and The Hills Have Eyes The Hills Have Eyes 2 Noah Segan: Cabin Fever 2: Spring FeverSo much potential, such a tiny profit. Better forget it as soon as possible.More reviews at http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.be/

After receiving and failing to forward a chain letter, a group of friends find themselves killed off one-by-one by a masked madman and must find a way to stop him before they're all killed. There was a lot of good things here which makes this a great deal of fun. The most notable of the film's positives is the awesome death scenes which are incredibly gory and a lot of fun. Some of the kills are pretty suspenseful and definitely creepy, and the action presented in the set-ups are rather fun, from the film's opening where a chained victim to different cars driving away from the same driveway, the football player who gets his face ripped apart by the steel in the high-school gym or the garage encounter in front of the visiting friend. That also helps out here with the stalking scenes throughout here as this one generates some really tense and thrilling scenes which makes for a surprisingly suspenseful time, as the walk-through of the abandoned pant with the dangling chains makes for a really comic feel, the big encounter in the bathroom where he traps her girlfriend inside and has to hold him off from breaking in is a particularly chilling highlight sequence and the stalking of the brother is really creepy with the continuous chain letters popping up driving him insane before getting to the big ambush kill in fine fashion are all really fun suspense scenes that make for a really great time here. This one also manages to get a lot right with the killer featured here who is quite imposing, not only being a muscular hulk of a man but wears a really imposing mask that works well due to the simplicity of it all, plus there's the added bonus of the unusual weapon for doling out the death that works really well and adds an extra dimension to the kills. These here are more than enough to hold this one up against the few flaws. The main problem here, which is what's really damaging to the film overall, is the utter cluelessness of them to figure out what's going on, waiting until far too late into the film to finally determine the true nature of what's happening and getting the proper authorities to realize the matter from there doesn't have any time to develop because of their cluelessness, which could've been avoided rather early on. As well, the cult angle comes out of nowhere and has so little set-up it's hard to feel for them since we know nothing about them, their purpose or even the motive behind this batch of kills, making for a wholly disappointing story overall that makes the first half here rather tough to get into. Likewise, there's also a pretty weak and overall lousy suspense scene in that section where he stalks the friend in the gym in a really protracted sequence that forever and really weakens it's suspenseful attempts here. It's still watchable due to the gore and the kills, but a little more info would work well.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and Brief Nudity.

This is one horror movie where the extreme violence was executed very well but finally didn't serve the purpose for me. Although there were some scary bone-breaking scenes, the sum total of the movie was just about okay only. The best aspect of the movie is the initial scene of a girl being dragged away in chains. That was quite shocking & chilling to see. And also the Chain Man himself, who looked quite creepy in his huge built and the manner in which he slaughters his victims. Very painfully and slowly....But I felt the movie failed to maintain the scare factor constant. The acting was mediocre. Only people who caught my attention was Brad Dourif as Prof.Smirker(his eyes are so expressive) and also Keith David who plays the lead detective Jim Crenshaw. Even Nikki Reed who plays the lead female character Jessie Campbell does a fine job.As some of the viewers mention here in IMDb, the last 10 minutes of the movie or so look hurried and disappointing. Although the story is about the so-called anti-technology terrorists, I really couldn't get that message. Instead it just seemed more about a mad man sneaking around houses and tearing all the victims' flesh away. Just another horror genre flick to me with lots of violence.Verdict: Another average scare flick to time-pass your evening....
