Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

It's a pretty good movie in the extreme action violence exploitation film genre, where it's bloody to the point where it's more ridiculous than actually realistic. Blood and gore galore. This is for fans of movies like Hobo With a Shotgun or Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky.It's a very simple but entertaining premise, where Salma Hayek is stuck in an apartment, while she fights off waves of bad guys coming in trying to kill her. The entertainment comes from the variety in the assassins being sent in to kill her, from gun-toting hookers, to katana-wielding Yakuza guys, to evil SWAT guys, to some bizarre sado-masochists. Ridiculous stuff.If I had to complain about anything, I'd say I would have liked to see maybe fewer shootout scenes and more martial arts instead, which would have been perfect for a movie like this. Swords and knives do come into play, but not enough for this to be considered a martial arts movie.

If you like overly violent for the sake of being overly violent movies then you Will like this.But everything about it is silly. The plot, the acting, the so called action. It is all over the top nonsense.What puzzles me is why an intelligent and good actress like Salma Hayek wanted to do this movie in the first place? I now find it hard to say anything else but no doubt have to follow this incredibly silly ten line rule.Why doesn't IMDb end that stupidity. A short pithy review is always better in my humble opinion.

Everly (Salma Hayek) is an excellent bit of entertainment from beginning to end. Who knew Ms. Hayek could be such a well-rounded action hero? From the moment the movie began, I knew I was in for the long hall. This movie is well acted and directed, no holes, no missing pieces, just an honest look at the character's life as it was at a particular point in time. Highly, recommended.I enjoyed this movie because the Everly character, in the context of movie, was so well acted. Everly was with realism, style and emotions that seemed absolutely believable. Also, the setting,rather dismal and claustrophobic, complemented her character, her situation and helped the viewer understand and thus justify her actions.

First of all…SALMA HAYEK KICKS BUTT!I'll be honest; I had never heard of this film before being asked to review it but I watched the trailer and was instantly interested.The story gets started pretty much straight away, with action scenes that escalate gradually throughout the film and even some funny scenes and some that pull at the heartstrings.Two things I loved most about this film is that Everly is just a normal woman, who just happens to be stuck in some bad circumstances. So she's no weapons expert and you see that in the beginning. I also loved that the whole movie takes place within Everly's apartment. In a couple of small scenes we venture out into the hallway, but other than that there are no big flashy sets, just one quaint apartment.Salma Hayek is amazing in this, probably the best thing I've seen her in - Dogma is a close second. The cast is large but aside from the main star, Hayek, and save for a handful of others, the cast is mostly unknown or smaller actors. No one is on screen for too long but all still manage to deliver an awesome performance, no matter the size of their roles.It does contain some dark themes and does include some gruesome, yet pretty awesome death scenes with tons of blood.An awesome action filled, kick-ass movie everyone should go see! Everly is one film that I will most certainly be buying on Blu-ray!
