It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

As a matter of fact, it was a James Bond movie. Eccentric billionaire madman obsessed with the underwater world threatens the world with stolen nuclear weapons so that he can destroy the surface world with only his underwater utopia of the chosen ones remaining. That is lifted straight from 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me. Captain Nemo is basically Karl Stromberg but they give him the looks and congeniality of Charles Gray's Blofeld from Diamonds Are Forever. The Nautilus is now a mobile submarine city which includes civilians as well. But unlike that Bond movie, 30,000 leagues fails on too many levels. First of all, league is treated as a measure of depth, but Verne fans have known forever that it is distance travelled "while" beneath the sea, not "to the bottom." Navy guys and gals will have a field day with the inaccuracies in this flick. The U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln is a battleship (looks like Iowa Class). All naval battleships have been retired since the early 1990s. This film was made in 2007. Lorenzo Lama's (Arroneaux) beard and hair are definitely not Navy regulation. And if he was the inventor of that Oxygenator (which I doubt, as he shows no evidence of being a scientist), why was he just a Lieutenant. He should have been at least a Lt. Commander like his ex-wife (who is named Conseil in this), and placed in charge of the operation to rescue the lost Navy sub. But then we wouldn't have the sexual tension. Too bad, because Sustin (Arroneux's cute blond first or maybe second officer) was perfectly likable and seemed pretty sweet. And there was clearly a lot of warmth between her and Arroneux. Too bad she gets killed by a squid. I will give the movie one extra point at least for not stereotyping all women in the military as ball busters or bull-dyke feminist types. Roger Moore couldn't save this one so Lorenzo Lamas shouldn't have even bothered to try it.

Most impressing: The "Rewind-scenes" - Bubbles turning back into the sub while undocking...To honor the work of B-movies, even the Chinese alphabet is to small to find any letter describing such kinda "action". Actors? You won't find some. Dialogues: I was in the happy situation to watch the German version. The mixing with sound-effects and the (oscar-suspicuious) music (that, by the way, never fits to the situation) made it nearly impossible to understand them clearly. Thank god! Special thanks for the impressing views of the USS MISSOURI (here declared as USS LINCOLN, the U.S. Navy must be very surprised to have much more heavy battleships, than self-expected), even, when they were much better in "UNDER SIEGE" and surely a dozen other movies. Very funny were the on-board-scenes with lifebelts hanging in front of bulleyes and command-bridges in total disorder. This "movie" is surely one of the best examples for waisting money and material...

Where to begin...where to begin. This movie is just plain bad...all bad. Every underwater scene looks unrealistic, the effects are terrible. I guess they really loved that low budget "light shining through a fish tank " trick since they used it in every scene possible. To bad there is no light as such at that depth. With the money they obviously saved in the F/X department you would have thought that they could have hired some decent actors. This movie was doomed the instant they put Lamas' name on it. The acting is stale, forced and very poorly scripted. Lorenzo Lamas' performance is pretty much like all his others...horrible. As for the rest of the crew they knew nothing of actual military procedures, terminology, proper dress code, etc..and I've seen better acting from an elementary school play (much, MUCH better in fact...and the sets looked better!) Furthermore, it seems that everything that could be wrong with this movie...was. First, the Scotia "nuclear" sub with a bridge the size of a walk in closet?...wrong. It also had the steering and navigation controls of a 60's diesel submarine. Most of the "navy" crew walked around in ARMY rank.(There are no full bird colonels in the navy) Also, the navy lieutenants wear 2 bars (exactly like army captain's bars) as their rank. And for some reason "captain" Nemo wore a mix of US Army Major General rank, what appears to be an air force aviators device and a mix of army and air force commendations...and as the sole leader of this underwater waste of time who would give him commendations? And, one would think if they had the "advanced technology" available, like the pointless "bubble-hammock", that they could have at least tried to make ANYTHING else look high tech. look at the scene where Lamas and crew are first aboard the nautilus...the bulk heads are made of plywood and they're CROOKED! Like any sub would be built this badly? Puh-lease.Whatever you do ,don't rent this action-less, mindless, thoughtless and useless cinematic piece of bargain bin leftovers. You'd have a much better time watching paint dry. We can only hope that somewhere out there is a movie company willing to do a remake such as this the CORRECT way with all the attention and budget requirement's it deserves...and keep the "20,000" in the title. There's nothing impressive about changing one digit to further indicate how far you've sunk.

Donot ever make the mistake of watching this movie. I got this movie free from someone and the person told me its a waste of time. I was told that this is the worst movie ever made after watching the movie, But I have had seen the original Captain Nemo movie a long time ago I thought with new technology it might be made better but after watching the movie I totally agree its not worth of watching even for free. waste of time and waste of a great story I have seen the original captain Nemo comparing to that movie its as bad as it could be the director did his best to make it the worst movie ever. and the actors they never let the director down by helping him doing the worst acting of there carriers
