The acting in this movie is really good.

The movie really just wants to entertain people.

A professional diver tutor returns to deep waters after 1 year, following an almost fatal encounter with a great white shark. The nightmare from the deep is still lurking - more carnivorous and hungry than ever. Darktide is better than most people give it credit for and sure as hell better than Jaws 3 and 4 but the dumb characters, the unfunny jokes and the same old premise take the focus away from it especially when the movie has pacing issues like a lot of pacing issues it basically bored the hell out of me at some parts but it's not that bad is serious, Halle Berry was OK and overall not so much cgi sharks which is good for once. Overall a 6.9 kind of a film they can't beat Jaws or even Jaws 2.

What possessed someone with Halle Berry's acting chops to take on this very tepid melodrama is anyones guess.The film starts out promisingly enough with a suspenseful shark attack that delivers the goods, but quickly degenerates in soap-opera-ish melodrama that never really engages or interests the viewer on any level.Berry phones in her performance on this show, and whilst some of the cinematography is beautiful I certainly didn't see $25 million on screen. It all just reeks a little of missed opportunity to me. I can see why the film was relegated to the DVD bargain bin in so many territories.While Dark Tide isn't a terrible film, it's certainly not a good one either.A feeble 4...

Before seeing DARK TIDE my friends told me that this wasn't really an all out shark attack movie, it was more of a character study and when I saw the film myself, I thought it was a very down to earth movie because it wasn't as over the top as many shark movies like DEEP BLUE SEA or these other straight to DVD ventures. It was more character driven than you might expect but there was action as well which was very well executed. It had some very tense moments with the sharks and a big part of this is mainly thanks to the very nice underwater photography and its very realistic portrayal of events.In regards to people saying that the actors were all cast in the wrong roles. I wouldn't say all the actors were cast wrong. Halle Berry did seem a bit out of place here but the rest of the cast seemed okay. Overall, its not a bad film at all, its all a matter of what you expect from it.
