19-year-old Eric, arrogant and ultra-violent, is prematurely transferred to the same adult prison facility as his estranged father. As his explosive temper quickly finds him enemies in both prison authorities and fellow inmates — and his already volatile relationship with his father is pushed past breaking point — Eric is approached by a volunteer psychotherapist, who runs an anger management group for prisoners. Torn between gang politics, prison corruption, and a glimmer of something better, Eric finds himself in a fight for his own life, unsure if his own father is there to protect him or join in punishing him.

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

The reason I wanted to write a review about this film..I saw the latest 'shot caller' prison noir kinda movie. Which was quite fine. But never on this level. If you peeps wanna see a real hardcore prison-no-Hollywood- film. U gotta watch this one! Aside from Ben Mendelsohn who is one of the most brutal and insane actors around, this young guy in the lead is haunting material ( this is violent.) I bet the Jack O'Connell dude is gonna be a big-shot because of this film. I'm not gonna spoil anything further… See this! Its very brutal, nailing & awkward at times. Its very raw & it stays with you. See it!!

Hahaha... recorded this last night and watched it for free today. This is obviously intended to be a Scum for the 2010s, with the emphasis, however, very much on the pyrotechnics ... I was laughing for most of it, thinking: "how many seconds are we going to have to wait for the next bit of 'Moindless Mayhem' (as they might say in Sarf London)?" Funnily enough the stuff at the beginning identified the funders for this film as being Scottish and Northern Irish film funding bodies... and yet it was entirely Southern English based, with nary a non-London accent to be heard. If I were a taxpayer in Scotland or "Norn Iron" I might feel a bit miffed about that.Central to the film is the relationship between the young whippersnapper and his Old Man, and the cliché for each is that "E can look after 'imself", if you get my drift. Chip off the old block, innit? Please don't pay money to watch this film if you are looking for sociological insight. But I've seen worse entertainment films.

I thought about giving it a ten, but then the ending and throughout the film we do not get the informations about what happened between the father and the son which I think is important for the understanding of the whole movie and the relationship between them. All the actors are doing great. Everyone seemed very believable. The camera work is good also. I had the feeling of being present there all time. The young mr Love is really great in his role. I did not see any of his movies before, but after this one, will pay attention more to his roles. All in all, really good one!

Jack O'Connell plays a young offender that is transferred to an adult prison due to his violent behavior. There he meets his father who he barely knows. After multiple fights he starts attending group therapy in order to try to manage his anger. The whole movie is filled with violence and effing. I don't think there are two sentences without effing. Not that I care but I thought the dialogues were a bit simple. Maybe that's common in prison. Anyways, Jack O'Connell puts down a good performance. You have the normal prison movie clichés like the corrupt guards, the therapist that believes everybody has something good to offer, the bad guy that runs the whole prison aisle etc. Not a bad movie but I saw better prison movies, but it's worth a watch.
