The acting in this movie is really good.

This is the type of movie that reminds us of what made the low-budget science fiction movies of the 50's and 60's so memorable. Poor acting, cliché'd dialogue, not so special effects. "American Warships" isn't great cinema in any sense of the word, and yes it was put together to cash in on the blockbuster "Battleship", but honestly the movie is enjoyable in its own right. It has in it the elements that have made those other movies so memorable.The plot is something sort of like "Battlestar Gallactica", in that an older warship that isn't as technically integrated and is being turned into a museum is called into action when a sudden and unprovoked attack by forces from another world decide they want to take over.While the plot has been used (what good "bad" science fiction movie doesn't borrow a cliché'd plot), the pacing is actually good, and there aren't many areas where the action tails off into boredom. Overall, the acting is not great. Some of it might not even qualify as good or competent. But again, this was made to cash in on the big hit of the summer. And it isn't so terrible that it isn't watchable, much like 1950's science fiction.The weakest point of the movie is by far the special effects. The obvious use of the same shots over and over and over again became a bit repetitive, and stock footage was certainly overused, yet this is what made those "so bad they're good" movies that way. I don't believe that those who have negatively reviewed this film really understood what was being done here. It's not great, but it is so bad it's good, and this classic science fiction fan enjoyed it.

This is in no way a good movie, but it is at least as good (or bad) as movie "Battleship" (2012)(qv) and, from a business standpoint was obviously made for significantly less money.May contain spoilers.The basic plot is similar enough to "Battleship" that even though I will not detail the plot, it really isn't a surprise. The acting is relatively wooden even with a couple of well known actors (Peebles and Weathers) appearing. The special effects are a tad better than the Asylum average and were a pleasant surprise, even thought they still were not good in an absolute sense.The main positive part of this movie was the writing, primarily the plot. While a lot of the dialogue was quite weak, the actual plot held together a lot better than did the blockbuster this movie was trying to copy. While the ending did have a taste of "deus ex machina" to it, it still made more sense than did the end of "Battleship".I can imagine that if the script had been edited a bit better and had a few more bucks been available for effects, this movie might have actually moved up into the "not too bad" level.As it is, it still falls well short of being enjoyable, but the team did manage to do a few things right and that makes it better than expected.

Obviously the writers of this film didn't go out of their way to strain their brains to come up with a decent enough script and the producers were probably not so eager to empty their pockets to add to the budget. In the end what you have is a film that is literally not worth seeing. The acting is so bad it'll make you cry more than you thought you did while watching the TITANIC. The effects are so terrible the CG resembles something more like silicon rather than animation and the editing is also somewhat crap as various scenes were constantly reused several times just to indicate how low the film budget really is.Overall, Its not worth the running time it'll take you to watch this film. The film BATTLESHIP might not be a masterpiece itself but it is okay if you don't take the plot too seriously.

I usually don't write reviews or comments, but this movie is so so pathetic that I created an account here just to say how bad this movie is to let out my frustrations. Its actually not a movie, its a cartoon made by some retarded clowns. We need to rather invent a new word in English vocabulary which should mean '100 times pathetic or disgustingly pathetic or pathetically pathetic' than that word would be suitable for this movie. Whoever has watched this movie for at least 20 min has become a 'victim' of this movie and must go to see any psychiatric to calm oneself down. I happen to see this movie on Netflix, but god bless those people who actually watched this movie on theaters. And moreover, despite the fact that they made the pathticest movie possible in mankind, they also showed intent for second part in the end by saying 'aliens might have sent distress signal'. ** Please do yourself a favor and do not watch this movie. **
