Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Forget about topnotch tap-dancer, Fred Astaire being teamed up with Ginger Rogers - It's Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell (here in "Broadway Melody of 1940") who were the real, true dancin' dynamic duo of the dance floor. There's no question about it.And forget about this movie having much of a story to back it up - (Who cares?) - It's the musical numbers and its dancers (who really kick up their heels) that are the real stars of the show in this lavish production.Yep. If you enjoy movie-musicals from Hollywood's golden era - Then - This is the one for you. Believe me - The dancing doesn't get any better than this, with songs written by Cole Porter, including the sensational "Begin the Beguine".

Here i go again, rhubarb, hubarb. I don't have a lot to say about this movie. So I'll have to waffle on again here about nothing.lively film about a dance team who have to break up when one of them is offered better things. The thin plot is just an excuse for the wonderful dancing from the three principals. It's not a classic, but t's worth watching. I enjoyed it, especially for the dancing. Did anyone else like the dancing in this movie or was it just me.Anyway blah blah, blah, summer wishes, ice cream, jolly roger, nuts. favourite jolly gumdroms, mixamatosius. yupee , corn dolly, Is that enough o write, i hope it is. If i can't

Its great that Eleanor Powell and Fred Astaire were able to dance together in at least one film. The Cole Porter music such as "Begin the Beguine" for the finale is perfect. George Murphy supported well throughout this movie. When such talent as Astaire,Powell, and Murphy is displayed with terrific music, the story does take a backseat. Still,Frank Morgan was great as a befuddled producer partner for this musical. At the end of the movie I only wanted to see more. If only Fred and Eleanor could have made another film together. Eleanor lights up the screen with her wonderful smile and her terrific eyes. Then add Fred's uplifting demeanor to their exquisite tap dancing, the chemistry is there for a heart warming experience.

partner Astair ever had who could out-dance him - and, that's saying a lot! He was great and she was greater. They didn't call her style machine gun for nothing. The Begin The Beguine sequence was the absolute ultimate dance scene ever filmed. Supposedy, they became great friends during the filming of this movie even though he admitted to being intimidated by Powell due to her dancing prowess. While Ginger Rogers was Astair's most famous dance partner she could not compare to Powell's skills - in fact, she was not even in the same league. Powell was a true dancer and even Ann Miller sited her as being the greatest dancer of all time.
