Best movie of this year hands down!
I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Kapoor & Sons came as a surprise to me where I expected it to be a usual Bollywood melodrama. But, this one turned out to be a great plot with sincere performances. This is the movie that separates itself as a family drama from family melodramas.Special mention for Ratna Pathak Shah outperforms every one else and delivers a great deal of on-screen command.Sublime plot, no melodramatic dialogues, no over-the-top twists.Kapoor and Sons is pure, emotional piece or art. A movie to cherish forever.
One of the most under-rated but surely among the best Hindi movies of 2016. It is a family drama with a tinge of comedy and romance. But what stands out is the truthfulness with which the conflicts between all characters is portrayed. I guess any viewer will be able to relate the film to his family in some way or another. Casting for all the parts seems apt. Rishi Kapoor brings forward his acting prowess playing a 90 year old grandfather. He is the eldest Kapoor but his amazing comic timing brings a lightness to the film. The two grandsons are played by Fawad Khan and Siddharth Malhotra. Both play their parts well while you might at some instances find Siddharth strained to show his emotions. Alia Bhatt does not really play a central character but her performance stands out. She is effortless in her portrayal of a myriad of emotions from fun to romantic to sad. This movie is a bit of an emotional roller-coaster and bound to leave you teary-eyed at times.
I got the DVD expecting Kapoor & Sons to be a really good film with all the hype and encouraging reviews and all that.It was mediocre and over rated. One hour into the film and we were wondering what was so great about it. The movie picked up only in the last forty minutes or so when the stretched saga of a forever bickering family became interesting and one wanted to find out how it all ended.Rishi Kapoor was good as grandpa Kapoor. Ratna Pathak Shah was very good as the disgruntled cribbing wife and she certainly looked the part. Rajat Kapoor was fine. The rest of the cast were just okay, Fawad Khan is good looking but did not display any extraordinary acting skills. Ditto with Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt.Kapoor & Sons is a movie that deserves to be watched on TV. It isn't worth the effort and expense of going to the theatre, nor the cost of the DVD.
Father had lied to his wife about his ongoing affair with a colleague, wife had lied to her younger son about giving his novel story to his elder brother, elder son had lied about his being gay. And the guy who haven't lied to anyone, was considered as a loser. Story of a family who was just staying together, instead of living. And there was a hidden flame between them which was sure to come out whenever the family got together for a party or even regular dinner. Rishi Kapoor's get up is amazing, initially he's unrecognizable. Dadu (Rishi) is the only common interest among all the family members. There's not a single unnecessary shot in the film, knitted beautifully and though it's 2:17 hours but never felt too long for a family drama.
