I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.

Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

This is one of those movies that are extremely hard to criticize, because to write anything truly meaningful and deep one has to watch it from the start to an end, to get the message, to touch the elements of cinematography etc etc etc.All this I found quite an impossible task. This movie is not simply bad, but it seems to take itself extremely seriously, so to take it lightly and poke some fun at it would be like to laugh at retarded kid on a wheelchair.Any self-respecting person simply wouldn't do that.I tried watching honestly, and ended up getting the first 12 minutes, cringing and moaning, zooming to the middle, moaning, zooming further, another half-a-minute cringe worthy bit...As you zoom at 4x speed, you may find some screens worth your attention, but as you slow down to a normal speed and sound and acting starts coming through... Nope. Impossible.I would rather open up a medical encyclopedia and enjoy some garish gangrene pictures. Thanks

If I understand correctly, the lengthened title "The Nutcracker: The Untold Story" wasn't used till the movie had already failed under the simple "Nutcracker" title. I can understand that "The Nutcracker" by itself leads to false expectations. As a matter of fact, I ran into the movie on TV just as it was ending, the kid was singing to the music of Tschaikowsky's piano concerto, and I said to myself, "Wow, they've run through all the beloved Nutcracker music and they've had to add even more Tschaikowsky!" So I made a point of catching the movie again, from the beginning this time, and where were the Nutcracker tunes? Quite absent most of the time, although when they popped up they were sometimes interestingly reworked. They would have made a nice addition to a movie that was not expected necessarily to include them, but they were rather pitiful in a movie that you'd expect to be much more Tschaikowskian than it was. Although the nutcracker belongs originally to Hoffmann rather than to Tschaikowsky, and the basic elements of Hoffman's story aren't all thrown away for the movie, it's not Hoffmann that people care about these days. Keeping the nutcracker out of the title might have been too much to ask, but I think that adding to the title was the right idea. "Mary and the Nutcracker" or some other variation might have warned people that this is far from your standard version. On its own overall merits, rather than just its musical merits, I think the movie deserved to do better, although as others have pointed out, it can't be recommended for kids of all ages and between those too old for the formulaic rescue-the-kingdom story and those too young for the shock moments, the demographic of the target audience is kind of slippery.

Make no bones about it, this movie sucks. It does have some meriting factors--interesting set design and production. And that's pretty much it! Writing, directing and acting: ham-fisted at best. The songs are TERRIBLE, the film's themes are all over the place and forget about any sense of continuity. Inexplicably, the main character's uncle is Albert Einstein who deigns it necessary to sing a dreary diddy about relativity and the rats are Nazis because... who knows?! The biggest disappointment: the stupid looking Nutcracker (who goes by NC!) that looks like an unimaginative Pinocchio. Glad to see this film bombed at the box office, hard.

¡Muy recomendable para niños, les encantará!!! Highly recommendable for kids! Do not pay attention to negative posts and make your own judgment (as in everything in life). Of course, everyone has the right to say whatever they think, it's a free world, but it seems to me that in this particular case, bad critics come more from personal idiosyncrasies and prejudice, and maybe envy (which is the active ingredient of most destructive criticism I've seen). I do not see objective evaluations in the few "professional critics" I read for this Nutcracker Movie. What else can I say? Production is superb, acting from the main characters is excellent, settings are beautiful and special effects are very well done. Whatever "ideology" or "political" ideas there may be are just a mere interpretation of historic outcomes that do not interfere with the main story, and the children will most likely filter them out. (I hope there are now more than 10 lines, because this review is taking more time than what I first thought it would). Enjoy the movie! My kids, 8 and 10, really did!
