This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

Released in 2010, "Mega Piranha" chronicles events when a mutant strain of increasingly-growing piranha escape from the Amazon Basis to threaten Florida. Tiffany stars as a researcher in the jungle while Paul Logan plays a kick-axx government agent and Barry Williams his superior back in the US. David Labiosa is on hand as a Hispanic militant in the jungle. While a little overweight, Tiffany makes for a likable protagonist and Logan is spot-on as a Rambo-ish action figure. The jungle and beach locations are good and there's quite a bit of action. Unfortunately, the story isn't very compelling, although it develops some drive by the last act. But it's all for naught as the cartoony CGI of the huge piranha and what they're able to do makes you bust out laughing rather than scare you (or impress you or whatever). As the story moves along, the colossal fish are shown jumping into water that's obviously too shallow for them to occupy. It just boggles my mind that The Asylum would blow all this money on cast and locations and then plague the flick with such lousy F/X. One worthy brief scene occurs during the beginning, however, when Tiffany's character amusingly pays tribute to the great "Apocalypse Now," which will be missed by most viewers because it's not one of the more popular lines from that movie. Speaking of Tiffany, she sings the end-credits' song "Frozen Skies" and it's pretty good.Bottom Line: Even viewed as a parody, "Mega Piranha" is bad, Mega Bad.The film runs 92 minutes and was shot in Belize, Los Angeles and Long Beach.GRADE: D (2.5/10 Stars)

Another Piranha movie and another movie from Asylum sums up this movie. There's not much story to this movie. The usual cast of government agent, scientist, the military, and innocent by standers that gets eaten by the monsters.Genetically altered piranha that was engineered to grow large to be the food supply for humans goes out of control, and makes humans into their food supply.I like asylum's movies in that there're no hide and seek that goes on with so many of the B sci-fi movies. Like everything happening in the dark, and people acting afraid, but the actual monster is no where to be seen except at the last 1 or 2 minutes. With Asylum's movie, the monsters are there in its full glory, and even with marginal CG, I'd much prefer this over garbage like the Dog Soldiers, or Carnosaur. So the movie didn't disappoint. It wasn't one of the best, but it wasn't the worst of the B movies by any means.

TERRIBLE!!!...one of the worst movies ever and i love bad movies. They claim to be in Venezuela yet a lot of the scenery seems to be very north American, or at least not tropical, there are scenes of them running through what looks like Appalachian mountains not dense tropical forests. Also the "car chases" if you can call them that appear to show the colonel and his men switching between a Chevy and a GMC while chasing the scientists. i am also am amazed at the arrogance that only the Americans seem to be the ones who care there are giant piranhas swimming around, because of course no Venezuelan gives a s**t that an elephant sized piranha just jumped out of the water and through their roof, in fact they seems to want help them. the story elements seem to have been written by people who couldn't even take the time to wiki what they were putting ie 20mm rifles with clips the size of an m16. overall terrible terrible terrible if you want a fun cheesy piranha movie go watch piranha 3d or something and avoid this piece of garbage.

Scientists genetically modify piranhas. They start killing. People doubt it's the piranhas. They find out it is, the hard way. The is SciFi (or SyFy now) killer animal stuff. The growing piranhas and bad CGI gave me a few smiles, and the awful dialogue was memorable. But since The Asylum have already done Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, you kind of wish this Mega Piranha had a sea-folk to battle. Maybe, Mental Mermaid? Tiffany isn't much of an actress, in fact I don't think she was much of a singer. Paul Logan offers the muscles, and when he goes man-on-fish with a piranha in a knife fight, you believe he could win. In the expanding world of killer animal movies, this is one you can easily skip. I'm gonna wait for Piranha 3D.
