On the set of Cleopatra, Hollywood's most beautiful star, Elizabeth Taylor, fell into the arms of one of the world's greatest actors, Richard Burton - and she didn't leave. Their subsequent white-hot, scandalous love affair gave rise to the paparazzi and they became the most hunted and photographed couple on earth. Their rocky, passionate, relationship, born in front of the cameras, was subsequently captured in a series of films, including The V.I.P.s and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? The last of the great, extravagant stars, flaunting diamonds, yachts and private planes, they continually seized the headlines. They even divorced and married again - only to divorce again - but remain in each other's hearts. This Elizabeth Taylor - Richard Burton story is a no-holds barred account of their undying, but impossible love.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

Holy plastic surgery, Lindsay doesn't even look like the same girl, it's sad. I don't know if it's that Lindsay is a terrible actor, or Elizabeth was a terrible person but this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I'm all for following your heart but why was he with her? Elizabeth Taylor seemed so pathetic and talentless. I really hope it wasn't this bad. The only saving grace of this movie is Grant Bowler. He encompassed Richard so much it was amazing! I'd like to say it's age and experience that did it but I think it's more just ability. Anyone would've been a better Liz than who they chose. That said maybe it's the perfect choice because they're both divas, and remarkably unattractive. I feel sorry for her children, what mother would put her man of the month over her children. 4 divorces by the time she was 29, why did Hollywood put up with her? If you want to watch a Grant movie, than watch it, otherwise don't waste your time

As someone who (as a HUGE fan of Burton's life, career, and legacy) has researched the actor for 25 years, I have to say this movie is an utter DISGRACE to him as well as Taylor! Everything that both Burton and Taylor had going for them and what made them captivating to the public back in the 60's, 70's,....and even today is completely overlooked (if not lost) in this awful movie. If you're starved for a DECENT film about Burton and Taylor check out the BBC's "Burton and Taylor". Hell, even NBC's 'Liz: The Elizabeth Taylor Story" was better than this rubbish! Not to mention Angus Macfadyen's portrayal as Burton was MUCH better! There's also a very good (yet somewhat controversial) Welsh film called "Burton; The Secret", about Richard Burton's relationship with his older brother Ifor and the theory (one of many) that Burton may have had something to do with the accident which left his brother paralyzed for the rest of his life. Based on my research of Richard Burton I have a hard time believing what the movie claims, but it's a well made film nonetheless.

It's hard to believe that just a decade or so ago Lindsay Lohan was the next big thing, praised for her acting and screen presence by critics and acting vets alike. Obviously a lot has happened in the ensuing years that has dimmed that light. Quite frankly, watching her now is painful. She's a mess. Her once-promising talent is lost. Physically, she's no comparison to Elizabeth Taylor. Taylor was a striking full-figured beauty. Lohan is a pale waif with lip injections. Beyond the physical, Taylor was a great actress. Lohan, as this movie proves, is not.Aside from the curiosity factor of watching the terrible Lohan, the movie has nothing else to recommend. As others have pointed out, Grant Bowler does a good job mimicking Richard Burton's voice. But his performance is nothing special beyond that. The script is hackneyed and tedious. The direction is lackluster and very much what you would expect from a movie made for Lifetime. Just avoid this at all costs unless your curiosity about the human trainwreck Lindsay Lohan gets the best of you.

The script was well written, but as countless reviews have said before - Lohan in no way captured Elizabeth. I grew up watching Elizabeth Taylor, and was hopeful that this movie might have been at least watchable.Honestly I found myself stalking the scene ends, and wondering how they had managed to allow this to happen. Truly it makes me wonder if Lohan has even seen an Elizabeth Taylor movie? There is a lack of effortlessness that, to me at least, Elizabeth (even in the face of her worst turmoils) conveyed in all of her movies. It's almost as if Lohan focused on the wrong angles of what made Elizabeth one in a million. Yes she had her problems, but she said herself: "Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together." I think Lohan forgot the pulling yourself together part.
