Knight Rider 2000 (1991)

A Masterpiece!

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

As really that in the future of Knight Rider that the cars would be made. Though it does get it right still it is far from it. But maybe not in our lifetimes.As Michael Knight who owns a fishing shop and is called back into by his former boss for thirty days, Devon Mills. Despite wanting to stay in retirement he agrees to do so as he also counts Devon as a friend.Liked Devon to begin in the original show but then he got power hungry and if anybody was not a friend, it was him. As really gave him much to do. Despite Michael not needing backup. As Michael should had really told him off and threaten to quit as he could not come and go like KittSpeaking of Kitt Michael would only come back for him. And that he is disappointed to see his "friend" being treated like dirt by the new owner and boss of FLAG Maddock, who is more of a creep as Devon the lesser of the two evils.But still as Michael is about to walk away, he agrees to fix up Kitt himself. But as police corruption has hit an all time high and only one female good cop on Michael and Kitt's side, they team up for one last ride.Look for a pre-X-Files Mitch Pileggi as the heavy on the movie. Cheesy acting to say the least. But good to see three of the members of the original KR back.

"Knight Rider 2000" is a very well-made film, originally produced as the pilot for a new show with Susan Norman and Carmen Argenziano as the main leads. David Hasselhoff, Edward Mulhare, and William Daniels all reprised their roles, and its a real shame the new series never took off; I'd have watched it for sure.The story is fairly simple, but effective. 14 years after the end of the series, Devon Miles (Mulhare) still runs the Knight Foundation, partnered with former district attorney Russell Maddock (Argenziano). Conventional firearms have been banned across the board, even from the police. Evildoers are no longer held in jail cells, but cryogenically frozen for their crimes. When a Seattle mayor is shot with a semi-automatic handgun, Devon seeks out retired ally Michael Knight (Hasselhoff) to aid the investigation, pairing him with a rebuilt KITT (Daniels), and police officer Shawn McCormick (Norman). The villain of the piece is Thomas J. Watts (Mitch Pileggi), a former cop turned gunrunner, with a notable connection to McCormick.This film originally aired in 1991, and has become a cult favorite for fans of the series. Its easily light-years ahead of any other attempt to revive the property, including 1997's "Team Knight Rider" and the 2008 reboot starring Justin Bruening and Deanna Russo. The original show is still the best of them all, but this movie's a worthy successor, included on both the standalone Season 1 DVD set and the Complete Series package.

I recently bought the knight rider first season DVD after many years absence from viewing knight rider in 1982-1986 and for the very first time saw knight rider 2000 and I must say that I honestly can't believe that they could have made a more disappointing movie. I think it even surpasses Robocop 2 as being the worst sequel ever made.It is extremely violent, arrogant and Kitt has acquired an attitude problem with a rather foul mouth compared to what we used to see in the series.Michael Knight said he hated fishing in the second episode and now he is a fisherman which goes to say how much effort was put into the script.It hurts me to see this movie. Let it fade from our memories.

While not quite true to the original Knight Rider show this is still a very well done movie. It was just a TV movie not a big blockbuster, but good all the same. Everyone loved the original KR theme but Jan Hammer really shocked me with a beautiful score. The new car was based off of the 1988 Pontiac Banshee (an nice looking car actually). While KITT is now very very grumpy and furiously sarcastic (I guess being stuck in storage for 15 years can do that to you). KITT does not have most of his previous features. Yup, no Ski mode, SPM, oil slick, and (can you believe it?)...NO TURBO BOOST!!!! A decent plot, but all fans miss the original Black Trans Am flying through the air.
