The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

Is the movie as bad as Golden Turkey Awards claims. You bet it is. I'd rather sit through two hours of test pattern than endure this slow-motion train wreck again. It does for Hollywood musicals what the Titanic did for ocean cruises. Folks who think this is a misunderstood masterpiece are probably also kind to house flies. I just wish the movie were laughably bad, like an Ed Wood misfire. But it's not. Instead, it's almost painful to witness a Cole Porter score get butchered by performers about as musical as I am. I just hope writer-producer-director Bogdanovich learned a few humbling lessons from the experience. One thing for sure— I'll bet no studio gave him six million to play with after this. My advice—watch the movie only if the alternative is two hours of a political speech.

I just finished watching this mess of blather for the first time. I fortunately missed it when it was released. I do remember some of the scathing reviews, and I now conclude that they were indeed correct. So much wasted talent in one place. It's hard to decide which was worse - Burt Reynolds dancing or Cybil Shepherd singing. I read all the reviews others have written, and I am astonished that anyone could actually like, let alone enjoy this film. It's hard to imagine that Cole Porter was ever subjected to more punishment than this movie offers. It's hard to imagine a worse job of casting in a movie although there have been some that tried. I seem to recall that Hollywood managed to ruin "Man of La Mancha" by casting non singers in the lead roles (Sophia Loren no less). But "At Long Last Love" is definitely on my worst musical list!

Granted, this movie is flawed and far from the greatest movie musical of all time, but I do not think it is down there with Xanadu, Can't Stop the Music, Mame, The Wiz and A Chorus Line as among the worst. That said, it is somewhat of a guilty pleasure especially for the music and cast. The story though(while essentially a homage to 30s musicals, an idea I liked) is rather weak, and the script could have done with more work. The film is also overlong, and some of the singing especially from Burt Reynolds(never liked his singing even on All Dogs Go to Heaven) and Cybill Shepherd is not that great, though I think Mame's singing is worse. However, I don't think At Long Last Love deserves its meagre reputation. I honestly think there are worse movie musicals and worse movies too. Peter Bogdanovich is a rather curious choice for director but he does well. I would not put At Long Last Love up there with his masterpieces What's Up Doc?, Paper Moon and especially The Last Picture Show though. The film looks decent, with some nice cinematography and production values. The choreography is nicely done in general, while the songs and score are outstanding. I loved the cast, Madeline Kahn was a treasure and she is delightful here and she has one of the better singing voices in the movie, as is Eileen Brennan. People may say the characters are dull, some are, but in Brennan's case because of the way she acts it which is brilliant by the way her character is the anti-thesis of dull. The only real weak link, as Reynolds and Sheppard are actually fairly reasonable when it comes to the acting, is Del Prete, whose character and performance does get annoying.Overall, At Long Last Love is far from a masterpiece and has a lot of glaring problems but due to the cast and music it is for me not that bad. 6/10 Bethany Cox

This is one I have saved-One of the few that is so bad I show it to friends for laughs-Inept out of tune singing is over reached by ludicrous clumsy dancing- No one is in step!!! Even in a publicity still I saw.Bad singing is no problem if it is part of a good natured joke in movies like Paint Your Wagon-Lee Marvin-Clint Eastwood??? Singing??? SURE!! Why not???In At Long Last Love the plot is equal to the rest of the film-so dumb it's fun ___The back story seems to be Bogdanovich and Shepherd were an item and he decided to make her STAR with ready made Cole Porter songs and a 30's setting which had served him so well previously. Love is indeed blind, his critical judgement was lost behind and the result? A Classic- I save it with Plan 9 from Outer Space & Oasis of the Zombies to show when everyone is ready for silly!!
