Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
There are movies you watch like good literature, to learn something about humanity, a new perspective... that is not this film. This film is for ordering takeout and beer after a long week and kicking back with the S.O. for a fun movie night. It's an all around good time and the effects have aged well. Sure it has more plot holes than my street has pot holes, but with the castles, explosions, and dragons, who really cares? Besides, the actors put in a good performance all around, the score is fun, and for some light escapism it fits the bill. All in all, it is a worthy addition to my collection.
Stumbled upon this movie and was pleasantly surprised. Not your usual dragon / fantasy fare at all. With an amazing cast all putting in strong performances, a wonderfully original storyline, great action sequences and consistent thrills, you won't be disappointed.
Underestimated movie. I would not call this a b-movie like some do. Okay, some of the acting could be better and there are certainly plot holes but the story is quite original, the movie is very exciting to watch and it has the most realistic and impressive dragon ever! (Smaug eat your hart out). If you love dragons, you have got to see this.
There is no need to be nice to movies like Reign of Fire and praise "great performance" or "fun factor". The only extraordinary thing about it was that it showed dragons "en masse" at a time when they were reserved for Harry Potter movies. The rest is a straightforward post-apocalyptic action-fiction, so if you're into it, this is a movie for you.If not, you'd be left with a premise which might have been copied from a comic book. And maybe it had been, i haven't done my research. Anyhow, the dragons had been lurking in London subway for centuries, if not millennia, before they got accidentally unleashed upon mankind. I think this plot outline gives you a clear picture of what awaits inside.
