Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

This is one of the rare films made in this decade that is actually watchable, and I'd watch it again and again. It's basically a fun story of a slick salesman who receives penguins from his father that passed on, and both he and his kids get to love the penguins.I would really mention that the movie stars the penguins mainly, who truly do take the fun spots of the movie quite easily, from when they joyfully slide through the halls at the gala, or when Nimrod runs into a wall. And finally, for the conscientious viewer, there are quite a few omg throughout the film and one mention of "for Christ's sake", but otherwise this is a funny and great weekend film for the whole family, and there's not much more to say, other than try watching it!

Young children (and probably some adults as well to be honest) who find movies like Alvin & The Chipmunks, Hop and Stuart Little humorous will more than likely enjoy this slapstick caper with Jim Carey as Tom Popper, a man who has been sent 6 penguins by his world explorer father to look after. Now, I thought the combination of penguins and Jim Carey would have had the winning result of a very amusing movie, but I was pretty disappointed in all honesty. Carey, while amusing, wasn't anywhere near his best and I think the true stars of the movie were definitely Bitey, Loudy, Stinky, Captain, Lovey & Nimrod. This is a very predictable movie, and with a penguin named Stinky you just know it contains the usual fart jokes and toilet humour to try and keep it entertaining. And in a way it does because, if truth be told, it's that and Nimrod's clumsy, slapstick behaviour that keeps the humour ticking along. Unfortunately those, and the occasional moments from Carey, are the only moments of real humour. All in all, while it's a decent, feel good movie, it is still a bit of a let down.

Jim Carrey's Mr.Popper's Penguins is actually a better film than I anticipated. This film actually reminded me of the Jim Carrey of old. He had some of his 90's slapstick despite it being toned down for a family audience. I really liked the penguins in this film. They were quite mischievous but cute. After watching this film, I came to respect penguins even more.Mark Water's film is about one of those divorced fathers with two children who in order to get his kids to like him again, he decides to keep some penguins that his dad sent him. However, there is a certain zookeeper standing in the way.Jim Carrey was pretty good in this. He is not up to his usual antics but he's getting close. Clark Gregg makes a good, villainous zookeeper. It was also nice to see Angela Lansbury in a movie again.Overall, this is a decent comedy that the whole family would enjoy. There's not too much in the way of violence which is a good thing. These penguins are enough to keep the kids entertained. There may be a few slow moments but all-in-all I liked this film better than the critics did. I rate this film 8/10.

It is posted in the IMDb that the filming location is in New York - but the very last scene, is it really New York or a montage of North Pole??? As we can see from a bird's eye view, the ocean and snow and the whole scenery of a winter scene that pretty much looks like or resembles the North Pole. But of course, I could be wrong. Anybody who has the answer to this is more thank welcome to clear that mystery location or montage to me. Of course, anything or should I say, show business makes it all possible. All kidding aside, I really would appreciate anyone who could explain to me this last scenery location. Thanking you in advance.
