The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

David Mitchell's 'Copper Mountain' is a misadventure of a film. It's interesting premise is stabbed away by Songs that pop-up again and again, for no reason. Jim Carrey Rocks and he is the sole saving grace.'Cooper Mountain' is said to be about these 2 pals, who go to a Club Med ski lodge for a weekend of gorgeous women and racing. Unfortunately, this 60-minute long film, hardly offers what it promises. As mentioned, Songs keep popping up again & again, I wonder why director David Mitchell destroyed such an interesting premise? Were these songs even needed in the first place? Was his intention to make a musical or a comedy? These questions remain unanswered till date.Minus Carrey, this flick holds scant appeal. I am a Carrey fanatic, and I'd say watch this flick only and only if you love him.

Bobby (Jim Carrey) and Jackson (Alan Thicke) have headed to Canada's Copper Mountain Club Fed. Jackson is going to compete in a skiing event while Bobby just wants to get "more comfortable" romancing women. Naturally, Bobby's quest for a romantic vacation has some setbacks. When he launches himself into a hot tub with two nice looking women, they are not amused. Jackson offers support but he has to concentrate on the skiing contest. While these two lads are trying to reach their goals, the club's country singers, including Rita Coolidge, put on an "extended" show. Will Bobby get a girl? Will Jackson win the contest? Will anyone care, due to the limited time spent on their adventures? This film is a cop out, thank goodness I only paid $1.00! Someone must have said, hey let's film a country music concert and put in a few scenes with a couple of actors and call it a movie! Well, its not. That said, Carrey, in one of his first roles, does a funny imitation of Sammy Davis Jr. and tries to make the most of his very limited on screen time. So do Thicke and Dick Gautier. But, its a no go, as most of the flick is devoted to the singers doing their thing, which is nice but not what this viewer wanted. There is very little plot or direction, although the scenery is pretty lovely. In short, climb no mountains or pay no big bucks to watch this near-turkey. If you pay more than 100 little copper coins, you've overspent.

Even the biggest stars have to start somewhere. That is certainly true for Jim Carrey who was one of the biggest comedy stars in the '90s with such hits as The Mask, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb and Dumber. He later expanded his range to more serious movies like the critically acclaimed The Truman Show, about a man who unknowingly has been the center of a TV show all his life, and Man on the Moon, about the eccentric life of comedian Andy Kaufman. But in 1983, Carrey was a nobody and had his very first leading role in the Canadian movie, Copper Mountain, which is both very lucky and very unlucky: lucky for the producers who can now slap Carrey's face on the DVD cover and therefore sell a few more copies at Wal-Mart, and unlucky for Carrey, because it must be pretty embarrassing to have this film on your resume.Actually, it seems doubtful if you can even call Copper Mountain a film. First, there's the running time of just under an hour – and that includes the very long end credits, which, sadly, are also one of the more coherent parts of the movie. The real problem is where it comes to the plot: There is none. The film vaguely deals with two friends (Carrey and Alan Thicke) going to a skiing resort. While one of them has problems meeting women, the other wants to enter a skiing tournament. This is not a short summary of what happens. That is all that happens. It seems the producers had some random footage of skiing people and open-air concerts by totally unknown people at their disposal and were forced to edit it together. They threw in some scenes of Carrey imitating Sammy Davis, Jr. (one of the few, dare I say it, bright spots of the film) – but simply forgot to tie all of these ingredients together with a plot.Copper Mountain is currently at number 70 of the worst movies of all time on IMDb.com. It elicits such comments as, "It doesn't even count as ski porn," and "I really wish I would have shot myself in the face instead," from the site's visitors. On the other hand, it has to be seen to be believed. Don't worry about the costs – it's available for as little as 1 Cent on Amazon Marketplace.Written by: Johanna Schoenfeld http://thecelebritycafe.com/movies/full_review/12937.html

No matter how crap you think this film is - it launched Copper Mountain into a world renowned ski resort. Before this flick it was a single village family crap-hole. Now it's a 3 going on four village resort that gives Aspen, Vail, & Breckenridge fierce competition. If you go to Copper it's fun to watch this movie afterwards to see the changes. Make sure you check out nearby Leadville truly one of the best kept secrets in America. You can see Leadville on the sign at the end of the opening credits. Go to the Silver Dollar Saloon & Quincy's. Doc Holliday hung out in Leadville & it hasn't changed much since.Nonetheless this is a piece of history. The ski industry has changed so much - it went from cheesy to prestigious. This film happeneed right before the industry boomed.
