Wow! Such a good movie.
Please don't spend money on this.
Must See Movie...
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Watch the first 10 mins skip to the 1 hour mark and you missed nothing. After the 1 hour mark is not much better but different.
I never write reviews, just read them, but I feel the need to be blunt about the content of this movie. As an artist, myself, I can appreciate a movie with strange tones. However, this movie could have made it's point in a fraction of the time. I watched it at home, on Netflix, with the ability to fast forward.... and I did. I missed nothing. Toward the beginning, Scarlet Johansson's character attacks a man swimming at the beach. She drags his lifeless body up the rocky shore, while his toddler watches in horror and cries. The infant cries for quite some time, while the alien (Scarlet Johansson) goes about her business (well in to the night). At this point, I started to wonder if she'd have a change of heart, and bring the child to a safer place. But, no. Instead, she abandons the devastated toddler, on the rocky shore, still crying, in the middle of the night. It was ugly. Don't get me wrong, I understand that it was part of the plot (if there was a plot). But, it was a huge factor in my rating of this movie. As I skipped ahead, the movie didn't get any better. Hardly any dialogue, and the little there was, was dull. Also, her killings were very repetitious, and uneventful. This movie's concept left room for so much more, yet, it never progressed. For anyone brave enough to take on this LONG and TEDIOUS movie, I recommend: 1: Cozy Blanket 2: A Few Snacks (you're in for the long haul) 3: A Crossword (for the cake scene) 4: A Napping Pillow (in case you finish your crossword, before the cake scene ends) 5: A Buddy (nobody like to suffer alone... plus, you'll need someone to wake you up when it's over)
I've watched scores of Scandinavian films where there is nothing more than silence and people going about their business, and all in one continuous, still shot. I actually enjoyed many of those films. However, there is no concept built by the multitude of scenes which have no dialogue or "action" in them. This left me constantly asking myself questions that I shouldn't have to ask if I'm paying attention (and I was); questions such as, "Why is she doing what she's doing?", "What is the purpose of what she is doing?" and "How does any of this serve the loose plot?". By the time the credits rolled, I was left feeling like I'd watched a nearly two-hour-long intro to what could've been an excellent film. While it's not one- and two-star trash that so many morons rated it, on the other hand, it leaves a lot (and I do mean a lot) to be desired. Great cinematography, very good soundtrack and sound production, and great overall production quality, but in the end, it just wasn't entertaining.
Headline says it all...Even Scarlett Johanson has looked better...I couldn't make heads or tails outta this POS...Stay away
