It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

To all you lot out there canning this movie: Take this! I hope my 10 here ups the score at least somewhat!Engaging, intriguing, right from the start. I tend to choose movies I'm often not too happy with, usually there's a considerable lot of dorky stuff involved in the script and acting and general presentation, but this one, this one's a hot hit with me! I can enthuse about delightfully pretty Chloë Grace Moretz AND at the same time tell you the kid can act, she is one day gonna be a big star OKAY she already is, I've just seen none of her other stuff, but boy, am I hooked, reeled in, swallowed the bait hook, line and sinker, yeah baby!By some coincidence, as luck would have it, I'm watching Billie Piper in the British TV series SECRET DIARY OF A CALL GIRL and this little Chloë, she looks like the kid sister of that one, especially in the facial close-up scene's in Eddie's truck. And can Chloë Grace act! She is every bit her tragically comic character. And the most hug-worthy little darling you've ever set your eyes on. I'm a most recent CGM convert, like now. Well, some time ago I downloaded the trailer, but that was just to scout the movie. Now with my big screen I can just sit here agape at the sight of a budding Hollywood goddess. My one complaint: My DVD from the UK doesn't have subtitles. And these characters speak down Southern. Every now and then words that I can't quite decipher, even whole sentences. Coulda real easily been fixed with a good ol' subtitle track. But somebody in DVDsville skimped.

If you want some lightweight comedy and do not have a very unique sense of humour, do not watch this movie. But even as a tough drama it is not a really interesting work. The basic setting has a lot of potential and I am sure the book is great, but in the movie the story just goes very fast new characters are introduced very fast and relations between characters are created in an instant without giving them time to develop.Due to a good soundtrack and performance by Chloë Grace Moretz Hick still managed to focus my attention till the end featuring several minor plot twists.I would recommend this movie only to the real Chloë Grace Moretz fans who want to see all of her works.

I like highbrow drama as much as the next person, but at the 1 hour mark, nothing much had still happened in this movie.Blake Lively looked confused and not much vested in her role. It's likely she signed on to do this film with expectations, but once it was underway, she lost interest. I love Chloe and probably only made it to 1 hour because she was interesting to watch, but again, nothing interesting happened.Eddie Redmayne is a great actor but even he couldn't save this limp "story". Even after the "murder scene", I was bored and ended up turning it off. What a waste of actors, money, and film.

Hick was full of actors I tend to like, and that's why Iwanted to see it as well. And sure enough I enjoyed very much the acting in this film, which is the main asset of this film.13 year old Luli is growing up in trashy home without the stability which is recommended a young child. Her birthday present on her 13th birthday, which is held in a bar, is a gun. Luli is sick and tired of her mother's partner changing, and wants to go off to L.A. to find a more prosperous life. She starts off hiking, and soon gets picked up by a seemingly nice young man.Hick is a road-movie and a coming of age story which offers a nice ride. I tend to like stories which doesn't reveal too much of bad happenings, and I give kudos to the filmmaker here for letting us as viewers do some of the imaginative work. This might though be the reason for others not to like this movie as much as others. The setting is great, the believability the same, and obviously the director has a great hand with the actors as well. Some would want more from a film like this. I disagree. The acting is flawless by the entire cast, and this is why this will be so recommended by me. A nice story about dreary lives, which still is well worth watching as it delivers hope for a better tomorrow.
